Garage door repair cost index
Garage door repair costs $125 to $580 for most residential jobs. Torsion spring replacement, the most common emergency call, runs $220 to $580 for a pair including parts and labor. Coastal and impact-rated markets run roughly 10 to 25 percent higher on parts.
What a fair quote includes
For springs: a matched pair, new bearings if the old ones are worn, and a full balance and safety check afterwards. A quote for a single spring on a two-spring door is a quote you will pay twice.
For openers: the specific failed component identified before the visit where possible, and an honest repair-versus-replace recommendation based on unit age rather than on what is in the van.
How to spot a bait price
Anything advertised under about $150 for spring replacement. That figure generally signals an undersized spring that will fail early, or a price that changes once a technician is at your house.
A refusal to give any range over the phone. Diagnosis genuinely requires seeing the door, but the cost band for each repair type does not — any established company can quote a range for a broken spring without looking.
Pressure to replace the whole door when a single section or a spring is the actual failure.
