LiftMaster garage door opener repair
LiftMaster opener repair costs $150 to $400 for most faults. LiftMaster is the professional line of Chamberlain Group — the same company that makes Chamberlain retail openers — so parts and remotes interchange between the two far more often than people expect.

LiftMaster and Chamberlain are the same manufacturer. If a part is out of stock under one name, check the other.
The learn button colour is the single most useful thing to know
Under the light cover on the motor housing is a small programming button. Its colour tells you which radio generation the opener uses, and therefore which replacement remotes will actually work with it.
Photograph it before buying anything. Buying on model number alone is how people end up with a remote that will not pair, because the same model was produced across more than one radio generation.
Broadly: yellow indicates the current Security+ 2.0 generation, purple and red-orange indicate earlier generations, and green indicates an older system again. Ranges overlap by production year, so the button is more reliable than the manual.
What actually fails
The plastic drive gear, on chain and belt units. It is designed to be the weakest link so the motor survives, and it announces itself as a motor running at full speed with nothing moving. $150 to $250.
The logic board, usually after a surge or lightning. Symptoms are erratic rather than absolute: intermittent response, lights flashing in patterns, unexplained reversals. $200 to $400.
The safety sensors, which is not really an opener fault but accounts for a large share of LiftMaster service calls. Usually free to fix.
Repair or replace
LiftMaster parts availability is among the best in the industry, so repair stays viable longer than it does with most brands. A gear kit on a ten-year-old unit is worth doing.
The exception is anything made before 1993, which predates the federal photo-eye requirement. Those should be replaced regardless of what is wrong with them.
Common questions
Are LiftMaster and Chamberlain parts interchangeable?
Very often yes. Both are made by Chamberlain Group — LiftMaster is the dealer-installed line, Chamberlain the retail line — and gears, sprockets, logic boards and remotes frequently cross over between equivalent models.
What does the learn button colour mean on a LiftMaster?
It identifies the radio generation, which determines which remotes will pair. Yellow indicates the current Security+ 2.0 system; purple, red-orange and green indicate earlier generations. Photograph the button before buying a replacement remote — it is more reliable than going by model number.
How much does LiftMaster opener repair cost?
LiftMaster opener repair costs $150 to $400. A drive gear kit runs $150 to $250, a logic board $200 to $400, and sensor faults are often free to resolve.
