Check this first — it may cost you nothing
Count the blinks — most manufacturers publish a code table, and on many units a continuous blink is specifically the safety-sensor circuit. Then clean and realign both sensors.
Why this happens
Blinking is not a bulb problem. Openers use the light to report faults, and a steady blink while refusing to close is almost always the photo-eye circuit reporting that it cannot see across the opening.
The blinking light is a code, and most codes point here: a sensor blocked, misaligned or with a wiring fault.
Less likely, but possible
- A pinched sensor wire, common where staples run along the track
- A sensor knocked by a bike or a bin
- A failed sensor after water exposure
What happens if I ignore it?
Nothing worsens mechanically and the door still opens. But it will not close unattended until the circuit is restored.
